11+ past papers vs practice papers — what's actually available

GL Assessment, FSCE and CEM — the boards behind almost every grammar school exam — keep their live papers confidential. GL and FSCE publish short familiarisation booklets so children know the question styles and answer sheets; a few schools that set their own paper share sample questions on their admissions page. Nobody can legitimately offer you last year's real paper. What does work is practising with papers written to the same format, timing and question types as the school's exam — which is exactly how each school page here is built, from the school's verified exam facts.

Which 11+ exam board does your school use?

The board decides what the paper looks like — so practise the right one. Each school page above names its board and tests only what that board tests.

How to use a practice paper at home

  1. Print it and sit it properly. Use the time limit on the front page, a quiet table and no help — the point is to see what your child can do unaided.
  2. Mark it together. The answer key is at the back. Talk through every wrong answer: was it the method, a misread, or running out of time?
  3. Fix the weak topics, not the whole paper. Spend the next week on the two or three question types that went wrong, then try the next subject.
  4. Build up to full timed papers. In the last couple of months, sit complete papers under exam timing so pace and stamina feel normal on the day.
